Most Popular Census 2000 Data

Summary File 3 (SF 3) contains some of the richest and most complete statistical data available on U.S. residents - it is the most popular Census 2000 data product. Based on questions from the long form questionnaire (PDF - 627KB), these data were collected from 1 in 6 households in the U.S. as part of Census 2000. SF 3 contains data on such topics as income, ancestry, citizenship status, home values, commute time to work, occupation, education, veteran status, language ability, migration, place of birth, and many others. No other U.S. survey - public or private - collects data from this many people.

There are 813 Detailed Tables available in the SF 3 data product. Quick Tables and Geographic Comparison Tables based on these Detailed Tables summarize the most popular results. Major Race Groups Available in SF 3

The following race and ethnic groups are available in the SF 3 product for many of the tables.

• White alone (alone: only one race was identified by the individual)
• Black or African-American alone
• American Indian or Alaska Native alone
• Asian alone
• Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander alone
• Some other Race alone
• Two or more Races
• Hispanic or Latino origin
• White alone, not Hispanic or Latino

Note that the Federal Government considers Hispanic or Latino origin different from race.

SF 3 has Many Geographies

The SF 3 product contains for many geographic levels. The smallest available is the block group. Nearly all of the tables in SF 3 are available down to the block group. (Those tables designated as "PCT" or "HCT" are available only to the census tract level.) The most commonly requested geographical levels for SF 3 include:
