Summary File 1

Basic Information Available in Summary File 1

Summary File 1 (SF 1) contains basic information on the U.S. population from Census 2000. It includes data on people's age, sex, and race, their family and household groups, and whether their home is owned or rented. This information is based on answers to the questions on the Census 2000 Short-Form (PDF - 424 KB) questionnaire.

There are a total of 286 Detailed Tables available in the SF 1 data product. Quick Tables and Geographic Comparison Tables based on these Detailed Tables summarize the most popular results. Many Reference Maps and Thematic Maps are also available. A full description of all the tables in SF 1 can be found in Help or in the SF 1 Technical Documentation (PDF - 5.9MB).

SF 1 has Smallest Geographies

(Those tables designated as "PCT" or "HCT" are available only to the census tract level.) The most commonly requested geographical levels for SF 1 include:

The following race and ethnic groups are also available in the SF 1 product for many of the tables.

Note that the Federal Government considers Hispanic or Latino origin different from race.
